Purim is a joyous holiday that commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from the evil plot of Haman, a royal advisor who sought to destroy them. This story is recounted in the Book of Esther, also known as the Megillah. Queen Esther and her cousin Mordechai played key roles in thwarting Haman's plans, leading to a great celebration of Jewish survival and triumph over adversity.
Purim is celebrated with festive traditions, including the reading of the Megillah, which tells the story of Esther's bravery and the miraculous turn of events. It is customary to give gifts of food to friends, known as Mishloach Manot, and to give charity to the needy, known as Matanot La’evyonim. Another unique tradition is the Purim feast, a festive meal with joyous singing, dancing, and plenty of wine.
At Chabad Neshama Jewish Center, Purim is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. We host a Megillah reading, a festive meal, and a fun-filled Purim party with costumes and music. It is a time to come together as a community, celebrate our heritage, and rejoice in the miracle of Jewish resilience and faith. We welcome everyone to join us in these festivities and experience the joy of Purim!
